Mission
RAMA’s mission is to prepare students for a career in asset management and increase interaction between members and industry professionals.
Three Pillars
RAMA will pursue its mission by focusing on three pillars where it can create the most value:
-
Community – building lasting connections between students / alumni / professionals
-
Education – helping students develop technical expertise in investing
-
Career – assisting students in their career search, enabling them to make more informed career decisions
About RAMA
The Rotman Asset Management Association (RAMA), with 250+ members, is one of the largest student-led organizations at the Rotman School of Management. The club’s primary objective is to prepare students interested in a career in asset management by organizing case competitions, industry panels, and networking events. RAMA provides mentorship and education to students in all aspects of asset management including private equity, portfolio management, fixed income, and equity research. Additionally, RAMA manages the one-and-only Rotman Student Investment Fund (RSIF), a student-managed investment fund focused on providing students with a window into the life of an Investment Analyst. Students have the unique opportunity to perform thorough fundamental analysis on undervalued stocks. RAMA members have gone on to work in roles at prominent asset management firms such as Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB), Sunlife Financial, and Mackenzie Investments, in addition to equity research roles across all major Canadian banks.
Speaker Series
Each year, RAMA organizes several speaker events with industry professionals which provide students with the opportunity to learn about different asset classes, market opinions, strategies, and other facets of the industry. Past speakers have included CEO of Fairfax Financial Holdings and President and CEO of Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan. In an effort to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, RAMA is also proud to host a Women in Investment Management Seminar in partnership with VersaFi (formerly Women in Capital Markets).
Case Competitions
Portfolio Management Competition
The aim of the Portfolio Management Competition is to introduce students to the process of managing an investment portfolio. The competition is designed to help students gain hands-on experience as portfolio managers using a top-down approach in an environment that closely simulates real world challenges faced by investment professionals. Each team is tasked with analyzing the macro-economic and capital market landscape, and design a long-only ETF portfolio, given risk-adjusted return objectives.

Private Equity Competition
The aim of the Private Equity Competition is to introduce students to the process of evaluating a private equity transaction. Teams are expected to perform in-depth analysis of the investment opportunity and structure the transaction to maximize return potential. The top teams will present their pitches to a panel of industry professionals.
Sustainable Investing Competition
The aim of the Sustainable Investing Competition is to introduce students to the importance of sustainable and responsible investing as the future generation of industry professionals. The competition invites students to design an investment portfolio product with an Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) theme, taking into account the target clientele and marketability of the product.
Executive Selection Process
The process held to choose the 2024-2025 RAMA Executives followed that of previous years and we plan on using the same process for the next executive team:

-
Applications were opened and then interviews with all applicants were held (March)
-
Presidents (co-presidency) were defined prior to other positions and asked to help define the team, since the new presidents were the ones that would manage it. The current executives already had their considerations regarding the applicants, and therefore, asked for approvals and/or additional inputs. *
-
Other positions were filled based on the interviews and interests within the club
-
All selected executives were invited to confirm their interest in the position. In case any individual could not fill the role, they were replaced by an alternative choice.
-
After all invited members accepted the executive position, an email was released to confirm and the names were sent to PSO.
